FC Barcelona... Champion teams always rise to the occasion!!

THE OCCASION: Final groupstage match, Champions League 2006-07
THE TEAMS: FCBarcelona vs Werder Bremen
VENUE: Camp Nou, Catalunya, Spain
ATTENDANCE: 78000+

Never had it happened that a defending champion of the Champions League being knocked out at the group stage.. Situation was really tense for FCB as they needed nothing less than a victory to qualify for the next round... it wasn't easy considering the fact that the opponents are no pushovers... Bremen are the Bundesliga Champs... and in red hot form.. having beaten Chelsea...

Mouths had started to wager about seeing an early exit for the champions... Some reports indicating Chelsea lost intentionally to make life more difficult for FCB.. To top this all, not a full squad... No Eto, no Messi and even no Saviola... Form also not great having drawn the previous game in The Primera Liga against minnows Levante 1-1.

One would say a perfect situation for champions to exit... But as all true Barca fans would agree.. its the sort of situation FCB thrives in... After the hopeless 2001-2002 season, the sort of comeback FCB could manage... not many teams would even dream of... And that's what happened.....

Attacking from the very beginning, FCB set the tone for the match, playing throughout in Bremen's half... and finally earned a free kick at striking distance on 13 mins on the clock...
And the master Ronaldinho to take it... A kick right along the ground under the jumping Bremen wall and into the net... The best sort of kick that any manager would want to liven up spirits of the team!!

And then on... it was pure 'Joga Bonita' as the brazillians would call it!! FCB ate up Bremen's defence to get the second in the 18th min... The whole game was dominated by FCB who just played it in Bremen's half....

Assuring the millions of Barca fans... that the champions are here to stay... and win it for the second time running... rising to the occasion and silencing all its critics...
